Open Tournaments

Open tournaments are unsanctioned events, often referred to as pay-for-play. Except for conditions on age eligibility, these tournaments are, by definition, "open" to all teams. Most ENYTB teams supplement their league play with play in at least one open tournament. ENYTB sponsors its own open tournaments. A few ENYTB members sponsor their own open tournaments as well.

All open tournaments sponsored by ENYTB are listed on the Front Page of this website. Simply click Open Tournaments to view a list of all available open tournaments. (A customized list of the all ENYTB sponsored open tournaments is provided on each team's online registration form, found in its Team Home area.) Each listed open tournament is linked to a pop-up that provides further tournament information, including entry fees, format etc. as well as contact info for anyone interested in obtaining further information and/or registration. This section is not password restricted and can be viewed by anyone at anytime.

Members that sponsor their own tournaments can have their tournaments listed on the ENYTB website for free by contacting the League Office. This service is available to non-members for a fee of $50/tournament.

ENYTB sponsors open tournaments year-round, including: a Spring Blast (12U and younger), a Summer Super Showdown Series (July for all ages) and a Fall Super Showdown Series (5 weeks long). There also is interest in sponsoring a Columbus Day Invitational tournament featuring teams from Montreal and possibly downstate. Registration in these tournaments is "open" to members and non-members alike. Tournament formats vary but in general the format is some combination of round-robin play (typically early qualifying play), single elimination play (2nd round of qualifying play in Fall SSS), and double elimination play (championship round of play). Every Super Showdown Series concludes with Championship Round that is a Best-of-3 Series, featuring a double elimination, head-to-head, showdown.

Open ENYTB tournaments are not nationally sanctioned but they are great fun nonetheless. Efforts are made to attract as wide a field of competitively balanced entrants as possible. Entry is based on age and skill level. The entry fee depends on the size of the field and the format used, and includes team trophies and tournament tee-shirts for all finalists.

All Open ENYTB tournaments also are listed on each team's REGISTRATION page in the Team Home area of the ENYTB website (Inside The League/Login). This list includes only those tournaments that the team qualifies for based on age and skill level. Members can sign up for these events when they register their team for league play in March. Non-members with full website access also are provided a list of all open ENYTB tournaments that their team qualifies for. All teams have up to the time of the tournament cutoff date to register for any of these tournaments.

July is the peak of the summer tournament season for both sanctioned and unsanctioned events. ENYTB schedules its open summer tournaments around the AABC and NABF sanctioned tournaments in each age division so that its teams can take advantage of both. A more detailed description of ENYTB's Fall Super Showdown Series (5 week long format) is available by clicking the Fall Baseball menu item to the left. Cutoff dates for individual tournaments are announced by league email and on the League and Division Message Boards.

A complete invoice of each team's actual tournament "purchases", including open ENYTB as well as sanctioned tournaments, also is provided on its REGISTRATION page. Registered non-members with full website-access have the same information available to them in their Team Home area of the website.

At present, all members and non-members need to contact the League Director, Ed Frye, to register for any Open ENYTB tournament. Direct online user sign-up may be available later in 2005 for members as well as registered non-members with full login privileges.
